You can always use PowerPoint to make a slideshow. It's not difficult. Just put one picture per each slide, set a transition, and hit play. Now I get to pick on John when I get home and ask him if he wants some help.

I can connect my laptop using HDMI, or I can bring an external hard drive that is USB.

My laptop has USB and HDMI ports.  I have never used the HDMI so I don't know for sure that it works.
