Title: Theme Tag

This tag game is intended to be easy and fast-moving.

In order to play, two photos are required: one to claim the tag and another to place the tag.

Please place the tag thoughtfully so that it is relatively easy for other riders to complete.

No mileage requirements.

If your tag is difficult or sits for seven days, it becomes a wild card.

Huntingdon College in Montgomery.

There are a few reputed ghosts on campus including "Fred" the Library Ghost, the Ghost on the Green, and the much more famous "Red Lady"

Martha (or Margaret's) story has been featured on many websites and most notably to those of us who grew up reading it, in 13 Alabama Ghosts

So for this seasonal theme, get a photo of your bike at a location reputed to be haunted - preferably one featured on a website, book, or TV program.
(Yes, Jrou111's epic cross state journey and trip report a few years ago was the inspiration)

There is a road called Cook Springs Cutoff Road near Pell City. I could have sworn it had a wooden bridge. The road is curvy and narrow. It would be a fun ride if the pavement weren't so terrible. It has been patched up more than Evil Knievel. I rode it Sunday anyway, looking for the bridge. I was wrong, it was concrete. Good excuse for a ride though.

It is apparently a real thing that people have put up at various places around the globe with a message of peace. To the best of my knowledge there are 2 in Alabama, so I thought that was a bit unusual (this is outside of Dexter UMC in Montgomery - no doubt since it was where MLK, Jr. preached)

But do you notice that glass structure across the street? That is a building WITHIN a building.
When the RSA constructed these new offices, they did not want to destroy the front of the old supreme court building so they built a new building around it.

You can see the reflection of the church across the street, but if you'll notice all of the white building behind the glass - that is the old supreme court building now housed within these new offices.

So would you consider either of those to be unusual or weird? (If not, I am near a junk statue similar but much smaller and anti-climactic than the original theme)

Good because I really wanted to do this. In Honor of all the Public Safety communications people in the state, April 10 - 16, 2016 is Telecommunicators Week. With 127 in the state and at least 1 in every county how about a pic of your bike at a emergency communications dispatch center. This one happens to be Baldwin Co.

It's just a certain style of cooling tower, doesn't necessarily correspond to a type of power plant.

I don't think that has happened. Seems like they are using different locations based off of a theme. There may be times when the location is a same but only by coincidence. There is a different thread for a exact location match game.

FWIW, I also play this game on two VTX boards and when they grab a tag, they simply name the next category without getting it themselves for a picture.
Ironically, this one still moves faster. Nevertheless, it may be something to consider.

There are replicas at Ave Maria Grotto and Jasmine Hill Gardens, but I don't think you can get the bikes next to them. Best bet is the Temple of Sybil in Vestavia. The Statue of Liberty on 459 could count also, because there is a replica in Paris ... the "replica-of-a-replica" argument. :D

This is a replication of the Temple of Hera at Jasmine Hill. This what the temple would have looked like in ancient times. The replicas of the ruins at Jasmine Hill are not viewable from any where you could take a motorcycle without really ticking off the owners.

Darrin found a place on FB out near Blountsville. Rode out there, but they are closed on Sunday and I couldn't see any cows from the road.

Wandered around Cullman and Blount county roads for about 150 miles today. This was all I could come up with. I'm not a bovine expert, but it looks longhorn-ish to me...

Rode out to the Tuscaloosa Airport this afternoon for a face-off with the NorthFlight EMS Helo, but they were off saving someone, what an inconvenience... haha. Through the fence was as close as I could get to a plane. I already saw it starting to raise questions why this random guy on a cruiser is out in our field taking pics :crazy: Hopefully this counts?

Yep, I'll grab a pic on the way home of something I have in mind.

I play a photo-tag game on 3 different riding forums, and this is the only one where we have to take a pic of the next category - the others just name it.

However, that is not a complaint. The last few months notwithstanding, this one usually moves along much more quickly than the others, and they are national forums. I guess BamaRiders (is it okay to still say that?) just ride more. 8)

Don't know how you saw that in the picture but yeah they are. I have the Dakar version. There is a little highway noise but nothing bad especially if you have plugs in. I think they are great tires. As you see them they have seven thousand miles on them. My only complaint is the front tire leaks air at about 2 lbs a week. It is something that seems common with the dakar version. I am planning on getting another set when the time comes.

I noticed them in the church pic. After my Shinkos wear down those are next on my list. The quest for the perfect tire never ends. But the e07s seem to be a good choice.

This is the lot used for MSF classes in Montgomery. Since fleet vehicles are also parked there, ALDOT security keeps it locked or monitored so it is off limits unless there is a class.

However, if you look closely you can see some of the route marked with colored lines

I did...started riding at 9am this morning and when I got back to Hueytown, I continued to ride to a bar in Bessemer and took the picture. So, I rode 235 miles to a figgen bar that is 2 miles from my home. :D Why? Cause I am a stubborn S.O.B. that's why. ;)
BTW, I would not suggest you go in and have a beer...to say it can be a rough place is an understatement. ;) I use to go there all the time when I was pissed and needed to knock some of my aggression out. :) There is even a place in the woods behind the bar that is cleared off and roped up...sorta like a redneck boxing ring. :D

Okay, here is the new tag. NO MILEAGE "RULES" on this one...but it might require some research. A picture of a church, any denomination, Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, or what ever. But is must have been built or established in the 1800's, 1800-1899. It can be an historical type marker, on the church its self (like this photo), or any way else that shows the year the church was built or established. Plenty of churches in Alabama, very few though built during that time frame that still stand or have a marker.

Back several years ago we had a ride challenge in the Georgia BMW club which I fulfilled. You had to ride to every county courthouse in the state and get a picture of your bike and the courthouse in the same pic. All 159 counties had to be done in one year. That was quite an experience so as I rode by the Baldwin Co. Courthouse today I just wanted to relive an old memory for a minute and decided this would be a good theme next.

Take a photo in front of "A" county courthouse. Any courthouse in Alabama. There's one in every county! The bike AND the courthouse must appear in the pic.

Nicely done. I had found a geocache there years ago and knew I couldn't get my bike to it, so I had looked up locations for Millbrook and Hope Hull since they are also on the Historical Register, but hadn't had a chance to get out there yet. Getting as close as you can and then putting your helmet at the location was a nice touch!

In Lower Alabama there is only one overlook that I know of. It originally overlooked Mobile Bay. But the only thing you see now is trees and the I-10 exit at Daphne. Not exciting.... After a year of this sitting dormant I finally went north and got a pic.
