Title: Off of Greasy Cove Road
Post by: Frank Smith on July 15, 2018, 03:02:26 PM
A friend of mine told me that Greasy Cove Road near Elora is a good area to ride so @David DoubleEX and I decided to give it a try today.  Although we didn't stay long because of the rain, we did do some exploring an we weren't disappointed. The trails are just right as far as challenging.  Lots of rock and hills. There are several Creek and dried wash crossings too. I would not recommend this trail system on a big adventure bike. Its suited more towards small dirt bikes and 690 KTMs and the like.   We ventured off the main trail a few times and those trails are a lot of fun. I attached a few pics and a kmz file from locus.  There's a lot more to ride here than what we explored today. We never seen gates or no trespassing signs.  We are definitely going back.

@Frank Smith, you might want to look into a photo/video hosting site. Vimeo (video), Photobucket, are just 2. Yea, they charge a fee, but for even the lowest and cheapest account, you get space to organize and post all your pictures/videos and such. Since they are being hosted else where, the size restriction is gone. A Photobucket app has been installed on this site so even the largest photo file will not take up a extremely large space. Plus most have a photo/video editor built into the site so you can color correct, crop, and other things to make your photos and videos stand out.  ;) ;)

Well, it's always the Indian, not the arrow. Depends on your ability. I would never say you could or couldn't as I am not one to judge. I know I sure couldn't.  I'll be going back soon and getting some video to post in another ride report.

I'd like to go next time as well. I've heard about this area for quite a while but have never ridden it.

I forgot to mention that I did speak with the fellow who told me about this area. He said that if we follow the trail all the way to the end it will come out on HWY 65. He said if we go South from there a few miles, we will see another trail to left that will take us up near Walls of Jericho. @David DoubleEX and never got that far because we were exploring other trails off the main one, until we decided to call it quits due to threat of rain.

I'll ride with you on Sunday.

I have not spoke with her yet. I'll get over there this week before we ride and let you know what she says. Shouldn't be a problem, she has a huge lot. I'm going to ask for space for 8 vehicles, in case we have more folks who want to come.  Or I can ask Keith, the fellow who told me about this ride. He lives about a mile up the road.

We went back today and spent about 4 hours exploring. We never hit all of the trails off the main road.  Logged over 23 miles. The main trail does let out at Hwy 65. We found the trailhead on 65 that supposedly goes to Walls of Jericho but we turned back after seeing too many no trespassing signs.  Map file attached.

How challenging were these trails?

Some portions were super easy, others were a bit difficult. Scale 1 to 10 with 10 being most difficult, I'd say they were as high as 5. Beautiful area. I didn't get any video as it's too hard to post it because I don't have broadband connection out here in my neck of the woods. DSL sucks.

We did do several water crossings. They were nice and doable.

You had about 10 miles to get to The Walls.

It looks like you could come out on CR3 on Putman Mt.

Maybe one day I'll have time to go on one of these trips.

With deer season coming up, tread lightly and heed the No Trespassing signs.

The water crossings were fun! And they felt good.

Speaking of hunting season... When does that start? I want to take it easy when it does.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180730/e582a093000e607109416e992ef07e75.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180730/42a384531b59cf04826c1defc30fd0a5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180730/000e471cc7f620f7b69409a2ee250ed7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180730/c0cad79f41bd323db9309c45692c776f.jpg)

It didn't come out on CR3, it was further north.
Now that I know there's enough trails to keep one busy, we'll have to make it a group ride soon. Please come along.
We didn't see any no trespassing signs. I certainly would not ride it during hunting season.  I think bow starts in late September, correct?

Yes please let me know when you go back. Work slows down for me a bit in September. Our Peak is May through August. It's easier for me to get away to ride after we slow down some.
