Title: Bankhead tomorrow (Fri. 1/8)
Post by: davidhaynes on January 07, 2016, 04:37:32 PM
Looks like tomorrow will be the last semi-warm day without rain for awhile. I'm heading up to the Bankhead NF for a few hours. Probably be at US 278 and CR 63 around 11. Message me or post here if anyone wants to join me.

Flood damage to my favorite campsite in the Bankhead NF; had to walk the last several hundred yards because of downed trees. Oh well, at least I got to camp there a few times before this happened. From what I could tell the water (today 30+ feet below the campsite) was about head-high deep at the fire pit (based on the debris line of stuff hanging in the trees and bushes).

Water rose over this bridge at the canoe put-in/picnic area in Christmas Day flooding...

Accumulated debris on the bridge walkway:

View from about 40 yards downstream at the canoe ramp (note the entire tree trunk still lodged in the bridge):
