I decided on Saturday to ride to High Falls on Sunday.  Despite posting it at the last minute 3 other riders decided to join me.

It was still a bit chilly when I hit the road around 8:30 Sunday morning.  I met the others at the Shell station on 431 at around 9:30.

From the left; Buckey Doug, Doolittle and Hammerdown 77.

And our bikes.

By the time we got on the road again it had warmed up quite a bit.  Doug suggested stopping at the natural Bridge on Cottonville Rd just off of 431 so we did that.

I hiked down to get some closeups.  None really came out that great.

It was a pretty steep climb down and back up.

It was a pretty cool place and I was glad we stopped.

This guy was keeping an eye on us.

Then we headed off to High Falls.  We took 431 to Guntersville, 227 towards the falls with a detour to ride the twisties on Wyeth Mtn RD.  It felt good to get out and ride some twisties

High Falls, as would be expected after all they rain we have had was pretty spectacular.  I have photographed this Falls so many times that it's pretty hard to come up with some pics that are new and different.  Here's a few I took this time.

After High Falls we took 227 and 67 to Scottsboro.  Most of the non fast food, non chain restaurants are closed on Sunday so we ended up here.

Food was pretty good, very inexpensive and the portions large.

After lunch we headed over to Crow Mtn and rode up 39, one of the steepest and twistiest roads in the state.  We finished up by riding 65 through paint Rock Valley before heading home.

It was pretty much a perfect day to go for a ride.  It was also my first long ride of the year and it felt to get out for a day of riding.  I ended up riding a little over 200 miles.

Doug, Jay and Nate.  Thanks for riding along.  It was great riding and spending some time with you today.  I hope we can do it again soon.

The Sky was looking pretty cool as I got close to home.

Those are some great pics, Win.

Great pics. I'm going to have to map this out. Those falls are fantastic.

*Note: I can swipe left on the pics to move them and see the entire picture.  I noticed this last weekend on one of me posts.

The falls are well worth seeing, especially when there is this much water flowing over them.

I went back and downsized most of the pics.

High Falls is fun when it's all frozen up!

I wrote a song about that place back in 2010, after riding over there:

High Falls

Grandma was eighty
Her fingers were shaky
But her second sight
Was working just right

When her body was aching
Or her heart was breaking
She'd walk down to the trail to Town Creek

If you can get to High Falls,
God will set your spirit free.
Feel that thunder in your chest
Come and give your heart a rest

Long years ago
God washed her soul
At the baptisin' hole
Down on Town Creek

Ever since that sweet day
She'd oft found her way
To this place full of grace
To look on God's face

If you can get to High Falls,
God will set your spirit free
Feel that thunder in your chest
Come and give your heart a rest

The day finally came
When Bess heard her name
Called in that roll book on high
Her empty chair
I found sitting there
Made me know just what I would find

If you can get to High Falls,
God will set your spirit free
Feel that thunder in your chest
Come give your heart a rest

When I topped that rise
I wasn't surprised
God heard her prayer
And He'd found her there
Bible clutched in her hand
Waiting for Him on the sand

With tears in my eyes
I looked to the skies
I knew she'd found her true home

Rainbow shines through the spray
Makes me know that some day
I too will fly over that foam

If you can get to High Falls
God will set your spirit free
Feel that thunder in your chest
Come give your heart a rest
At High Falls

Sounds good except for pretty much everything you said.  ---Brian A

Thanks for putting this together and leading the ride yesterday, Win. It was a great day, great route, with great people.

Here's a good panorama shot with Doug and Win out on the rocks at the top of the falls.

OK, now we need you to post a video of you singing this song!

The falls are cool (literally ;D) when frozen.

This was a few years ago.
