Ride Across Northern Alabama

Hey guys is there a dirt/trail route across northern Alabama? Don't mind some pavement but looking for mostly a dirt route from east to west.

The farm to market road program pretty much paved everything in sight in North Alabama.  It's been tried and it's pretty much impossible to put much of a dirt route through this part of the the state. 

Now if you don't mind shifting North a little into Tennessee it might be easier.
