March 24 - Rally for the Galley - Montgomery

Those of you who have been around are familiar with the annual "Pay to Play" event I normally advertise.  However, I have not attended in the past few years but hope to get back this year.

For those not familiar, the Forest Park Ministry Center is affiliated with several churches in Montgomery and provides a food pantry that allows local residents in need to "shop" for staples and items.  Area churches collect canned goods and other foods to supply the center.

A few years back, a group I ride with called the FaithRiderz became involved with an annual fundraiser that continues to grow.  It's different from your typical charity run in that you pay to ride ($15 or $12 in this case) but also ride to several pick up locations around the way.  We discovered that the churches enjoyed seeing the motorcycles pull up, so we started going to the collection points as a group where we would meet and greet with those gathered, (usually with refreshments at each stop), and then load the support trucks or vans that followed us.  After the final stop, we ride back to the center where the goods are unloaded and we have a hot dog lunch provided.

The process of donating and collecting occurs several times a year, but there is always 1 time each year when it's motorcycles that make the run and people collect lots of food in anticipation.

This year they are planning to divide the pick ups into 3 separate routes so that more area is covered so they would like enough bikes to cover that.  Any MCs, Riding Associations, and individual riders (the majority) are welcomed to attend - realizing it is a family-friendly event of course, so they ask that any jackets worn not have obscenities displayed.
